Samuel Ighofimoni

Winner, Lower Primary Category

For this week, we are pleased to feature our Learn History Africa essay competition 2021 lower Primary Category Winner, Samuel Ighofimoni who recently turned 9.

Very clearly, you can see how Samuel stands out and if you like studying cultures, then you can tell that he is a Nigerian from the South-South region.

Samuel’s essay showed clarity of thought, had good structure, great use of facts and figures and strong grasp of grammar. Every box was checked in Samuel's essay as he wrote about the reach and accessibility of African traditional medicine and its influence in present day medicine. He stated that despite some criticism about African traditional medicine, scientific research is now validating the medical values of local herbs.

Samuel pointed out research that has shown African herbs having real healing values and are known to be effective in the prevention, management, and treatments of diseases such as malaria, ulcer and other ailments which may not be effectively managed if only modern medicines are relied on.

Learn more about Samuel in our video interview of the week. We were thrilled to interact with Samuel Ighofimoni who proudly showcased his culture by dressing in the Delta traditional attire. Quite clearly, he is being guided to have a healthy appreciation for his culture.

Were you as surprised as us to hear Samuel's poem about Africa as he began to introduce himself?

This type of creativity is also shown in his essay that won him the first-place position in his category.

We are positive that Samuel will grow up to be not only an intelligent but influential young man and we wish him all the very best in his endeavors.
